## World Cup Fever Unites Communities at The Source OC in Buena Park

**BUENA PARK, Calif. — June 11, 2026** — Hundreds of soccer fans gathered at The Source OC in Buena Park this week as Radio Korea hosted a vibrant World Cup Opening Ceremony celebration, bringing together residents, families, elected officials, and cultural organizations in a display of international pride and community spirit.

The event transformed Buena Park’s premier entertainment destination into a global gathering place, where supporters of nations from around the world celebrated the opening of the FIFA World Cup. Traditional Korean cultural performances, live entertainment, community activities, and public watch parties created a festival atmosphere throughout the day.

Fans had plenty to cheer about on the field. Mexico opened tournament play with a commanding **2-0 victory over South Africa**, while Korea secured an exciting **2-1 win against Czechia**. The two victorious nations are now set to face one another on **June 18**, a highly anticipated matchup that generated excitement among attendees representing both countries.

The celebration drew a diverse audience reflective of Buena Park’s multicultural community. Among those attending were **Buena Park Councilmembers Carlos Franco, Joyce Ahn, and Susan Sonne**, as well as **La Palma Mayor Nitesh Patel** and **La Palma Councilmember Janet Keo Conklin**.

For Buena Park City Councilmember Carlos Franco, whose District 2 includes The Source OC, the event represented the best of what makes the city unique.

_“One of the things I love most about Buena Park is that people from different backgrounds can come together around a shared experience,”_ said Franco. _“Whether you’re cheering for Mexico, Korea, or another nation entirely, events like this remind us that sports have a unique ability to bring people together through respect, friendly competition, and good sportsmanship. Today wasn’t just about soccer—it was about community.”_

Throughout the event, attendees could be seen exchanging scarves, taking photos with fans from opposing teams, and learning about one another’s cultures through music, food, and conversation.

Buena Park resident **Min Ryu** said the celebration showcased the city’s welcoming spirit.

_“Seeing so many families and cultures celebrating together made me proud to call Buena Park home,”_ said Ryu. _“Everyone came to support their teams, but what stood out most was how friendly and respectful people were toward one another. It felt like the whole community was participating in something special.”_

The event also highlighted Buena Park’s growing reputation as one of Southern California’s most diverse and internationally connected cities. The Source OC, known for its Korean-inspired retail, dining, and entertainment offerings, provided an ideal backdrop for the celebration, attracting visitors from throughout Orange County and beyond.

As fans look ahead to the June 18 match between Mexico and Korea, organizers hope the tournament will continue creating opportunities for residents to connect through a shared love of the world’s game.

The World Cup Opening Ceremony served as a reminder that while teams compete on the field, communities grow stronger when people come together to celebrate their differences and common passions alike.

What Makes Marketing Work for Orange County Nonprofits

Successful organizations treat marketing as **community relationship building**, not promotion.

That means:

- telling real stories

- showing measurable impact

- making involvement simple

- staying consistent month‑to‑month

When those pieces align, marketing begins supporting fundraising instead of competing with it.
