## Buena Park Celebrates Freedom, Heritage, and Unity at Third Annual Juneteenth Celebration

**BUENA PARK, Calif. — June 19, 2026** — Residents from across Orange County gathered in Buena Park on Thursday for the city’s **Third Annual Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom**, an afternoon filled with live music, inspiring speakers, cultural performances, family activities, and community fellowship honoring one of America’s most significant historical milestones.

Hosted by the City of Buena Park in partnership with local community leaders and organizations, the celebration welcomed families of all backgrounds to reflect on the enduring values of freedom, equality, and unity while enjoying an evening of entertainment, food, and educational experiences.

Community leaders and organizers gather on stage during Buena Park’s Third Annual Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom on June 19, 2026. The event brought together residents from across Southern California to honor the history of Juneteenth through music, cultural performances, family activities, and a shared celebration of freedom and community.

**Juneteenth**, observed annually on **June 19**, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom—more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday celebrating freedom while encouraging reflection on the nation’s ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed live performances, local vendors, children’s activities, and opportunities to connect with neighbors from across the region. The event showcased Buena Park’s commitment to celebrating the diverse cultures and histories that shape the community.

For Buena Park Councilmember **Carlos Franco**, the celebration demonstrated how communities become stronger by learning from one another’s stories.

_“Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not simply a moment in history—it is a responsibility we carry forward together,”_ said Franco. _“When we gather as neighbors to celebrate one another’s heritage, we build understanding, strengthen friendships, and reaffirm the belief that every member of our community deserves dignity, opportunity, and a sense of belonging. Buena Park is strongest when every story has a place.”_

The event also attracted visitors from throughout Southern California, including **Diamond Bar resident Juan Morse**, who documented the celebration through photography.

_“I was originally there to photograph the band, but what impressed me most was seeing people from so many different backgrounds celebrating together,”_ said Morse. _“There was music, laughter, families, and genuine conversations happening everywhere. It wasn’t just a celebration of history—it was a celebration of community. Buena Park created an atmosphere where everyone felt welcome.”_

As the sun set over the celebration, community leaders recognized local organizations and volunteers whose work continues to strengthen Buena Park throughout the year. Guests concluded the evening with live music and fellowship, reflecting on both the progress that has been made and the work that continues to build a more inclusive future.

Now in its third year, Buena Park’s Juneteenth Celebration has become an important annual tradition—one that honors the past while inspiring future generations to value freedom, respect, and unity.
