Buena Park High School Interact Club Honors Veterans with Flag Day Rose Garden Project

## Buena Park High School Interact Club Plants Rose Garden in Honor of Veterans on Flag Day
**BUENA PARK, Calif. — June 14, 2026** — In a meaningful display of service, patriotism, and gratitude, members of the **Buena Park High School Interact Club** spent Flag Day planting a new rose garden at **American Legion Post 354** before participating in the organization’s annual officer installation ceremony.
The project, led by the student service club, was designed to beautify the American Legion grounds while creating a lasting tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
Members of the **Buena Park High School Interact Club**, alongside **American Legion Post 354 Commander Robert Juarez**, **Agriculture teacher and Rotary Advisor Paulina Cortez**, and volunteers, plant a new rose garden on Flag Day at American Legion Post 354 in Buena Park. The student-led service project was completed prior to the Post’s officer installation ceremony, where Interact members personally thanked local veterans for their service, creating a lasting tribute to patriotism, gratitude, and community service.

Following the garden project, Interact Club members attended the installation ceremony for the Post’s incoming officers. After the formal proceedings concluded, each student introduced themselves to the veterans in attendance and shared words of appreciation for their military service, creating an intergenerational exchange centered on respect, service, and civic responsibility.
The event reflected the shared mission of both organizations: developing future leaders while honoring those whose sacrifices have preserved the freedoms future generations enjoy.
For **Paulina Cortez**, Agriculture teacher at Buena Park High School and the Interact Club’s on-campus Rotary Advisor, the project represented an opportunity for students to learn that service extends beyond the classroom.
_“A garden begins with planting something today that you may not fully enjoy until tomorrow,”_ said Cortez. _“That’s also what service is. Our students weren’t simply planting roses—they were planting gratitude, learning that leadership means caring for the people and places that have shaped our community. Watching them speak directly with our veterans reminded me that the strongest lessons are often learned through meaningful relationships, including those with RV Nursery and Nava Nursery, who donated the roses and mulch.”_
American Legion Post 354 Commander **Robert Juarez** said the students left a lasting impression on the veterans who attended the ceremony.
_“Seeing these young people spend their Flag Day serving others gave all of us hope,”_ said Juarez. _“The rose garden will continue to bloom for years, but what I’ll remember most is hearing each student stand up, introduce themselves, and sincerely thank our veterans. Those moments remind us that the values of respect, service, and patriotism are being carried forward by the next generation.”_
The newly planted rose garden now serves as a permanent reminder of the partnership between Buena Park High School’s Interact Club and American Legion Post 354—a living symbol of appreciation that will continue to grow alongside the relationships formed that day.
As Flag Day came to a close, students left with more than volunteer hours. They departed with a deeper understanding that honoring the nation’s flag also means honoring the people who have defended it.
For the veterans, the day offered reassurance that the spirit of service remains alive in Buena Park’s next generation.
